Abstract

THE COIPOS (RODENTIA, CAVIOMORPHA, MYOCASTORIDAE) OF THE “MESOPOTAMIENSE” (LATER MIOCENE, ITUZAINGÓ FORMATION) OF THE ENTRE RÍOS PROVINCE, ARGENTINA. A summary of the present state of knowledge of the coipos (Rodentia, Caviomorpha, Myocastoridae) coming from the “Mesopotamian” (= “Conglomerado osífero”, Late Miocene; Ituzaingó Fn.) at Entre Ríos Province, Argentina, is given. The nominal species of all known “Mesopotamian” myocastorids are listed. The presence of Myocastor is confirmed at the “Mesopotamian”, becoming the first record for the family (together with those taxa from the ?Late Miocene “Puelchan”) and the oldest genus of a living caviomorph rodent.
