LA CALDERA TALAGAPA CHICO. MESETA DE SOMUN CURÁ, PROVINCIA DE CHUBUT.- Se describen los diferentes episodios volcánico-piroclásticos de composición traquítica, basáltica y riolítica, que tuvieron lugar en la caldera Talagapa Chico, ubicada sobre el borde occidental de la meseta de Somún Curá, en el norte de la provincia del Chubut. Los diferentes procesos magmáticos fueron reunidos en el Complejo Volcánico Barril Niyeu, donde se reconocieron ocho asociaciones petrográficas que responden a distintos pulsos de actividad magmática. Las relaciones estratigráficas entre ellos, permiten determinar que este evento ocurrió con posterioridad al Mioceno inferior, probablemente en el Mioceno medio.
Abstract
THE TALAGAPA CHICO CALDERA. SOMUN CURÁ PLATEAU. CHUBUT PROVINCE.-The different volcanic and piroclastic episodes that took place in Talagapa Chico Caldera have trachyte, basalt and rhyolite composition. The volcanic event is located on the western edge of the Somún Curá plateau, in the north of the Chubut province. The different magmatic processes were described in the Complejo Volcánico Barril Niyeu, where eight petrography associations that respond directly to different pulses of explosive magmatic activity. The stratigraphic relationships among them, allow determining that this event happened after the Lower Miocene, probably during Middle Miocene times.
